Back to home of Salle de Villefagnan website

Salles is probably named after La Salle room where justice is rendered. The parish depended on the former diocese of Poitiers. The priory Saint-Martin, whose prior was lord of Salles was the abbey of Nanteuil-Valley, Benedictine abbey, founded in the eighth century on the site of a sanctuary older.

The remaining buildings have a party dated sixteenth century (patch 1583).

The priory Saint-Martin, founded by Benedictine monks of the Abbey of Nanteuil, became the seat of a farm in the late sixteenth century until 1960. In 1995, the Club Marpen (yards School Heritage) acquires the priory and is embarking on its rehabilitation. The ambition of the club Marpen is to develop a halt jacquaire to accommodate pilgrims, since this priory is located on a tract charentaises leading to Compostela, and to accommodate the school during the holidays held in the framework of "classes and cultural heritage".
